Need very deep socket or special power tool

Need very deep socket or special power tool

(OP)
I need a very deep socket to remove nuts from threaded rod. We have a contracted maintenance project that requires the removal of nuts from over 100 pieces of threaded rod, and then putting them back. It would take more time than we have to remove them using hand tools, especially since the threads are covered with mineral deposits and the nuts are 16" onto the rod. I currently plan on making a super deep socket by cutting a socket in half and welding a piece of pipe in the middle. Any known sources for a "super" deep scoket?

We do exactly this using the socket and tube method you suggested together with an air gun.

Nice and simple and works just fine.

16" of threaded rod seems time consuming. Can they be cut back?
