Does grating usually brace supporting beams?

(OP)
Thread subject says it all. Thanks.

RE: Does grating usually brace supporting beams?

No, too much give in the connections.

RE: Does grating usually brace supporting beams?

Agree with csd72. I usually do not count on it to brace the compression flange of a beam unless I do something unusual to design the grating and connections as some type of diaphgram that can carry the lateral bracing load to some lateral load resisting elelment of the structure.

RE: Does grating usually brace supporting beams?

Yes.  Will not fail if the bracing quality is not relied on but it will not fail if grate is relied on for bracing of the top flange.
