PMW pressure regulator solenoid

PMW pressure regulator solenoid

PMW pressure regulator solenoid

Hi folks,
Just wondering why I have a restrictor before my pressure regulator solenoid.  What effect does increasing the size of the orifice do to the output pressure and rate of change of the output to the regulator signal change?

RE: PMW pressure regulator solenoid

I would guess that this orifice purpose is either filter  and/or pulsation dampening device.

The previous stage comes off a pressure regulator (pressure reducer).  The next stage controls valve pistons only.

I suppose that enlarging the orifice will make for quicker response for a closing PWM solenoid but slightly higher pressure also?

Sorry, should say that this system is oil.

RE: PMW pressure regulator solenoid

Without that orifice, the capacity of the solenoid would have to be much larger.  The small solenoid would not have the desired effect on the system pressure.  Similar orifices are used in pneumatic devices and other "piloted" devices to allow a small valve to have an amplified result with regard to pressure.

Thanks JimCasey, this make perfect sense.  My problem is that I still need the next stage to react a little faster.  Without increasing the 'in' pressure would slightly opening the orifice make for quicker pressure application to the next stage pistons?  I believe yes.  I also think that the pressure variance will slightly increase at the output.
