Internally saved parts

Internally saved parts

Internally saved parts

(OP)
We had a pretty big jump in our upgrade from 2003 to 2008, so there are a lot of things that may have been around for a while that I am just coming across.  Assemblies with internal parts seem pretty useful.  I see it being used for adding things that don't necessarily need models, like glue and insulation, but still have properties you want shown in the BOM.  And maybe a buyout part that is actually an assembly and you would like it to behave like one without having all its child parts as actual files.  My question is have any of you experienced any problems or issues using inernally saved parts?  Also, are there any more advantages with them that I did not mention?

RE: Internally saved parts

The new virtual part option does have its uses.  I tend to use them when I'm throwing parts together to get an idea of spacing, movement, etc.  I also use them when I just need a quick representation of something (say a pump) and I don't need all of the features and overhead of managing another part.

It's a bit annoying when the software keeps asking if you want to save it internally or externally though.  There are also one or two bugs to look out for, but all-in-all they seem to be pretty useful...occasionally.
