Stress and Strain and modulus

Stress and Strain and modulus

Stress and Strain and modulus

(OP)
I want to get the stress strain characteristics of a material and I only have access to a DMTA, how can I get this from a DMTA and how can I relate the storage modulus and other results from DMTA to the youngs modulus of the material.

RE: Stress and Strain and modulus

banjioa,

Tensile testing of proper specimens will give you the stress, strain, and modulus information you need.  Accredited labs charge ~ $100/sample to perform this type of testing.

Is there anyone with contact information to such Lab in Sweden especially Goteborg? Or any institution that can test for strain and stress in or around Goteborg.

Want to further ask, does the stress strain character change for a non linear material(example-a viscoelastic material) at different temperature?

Thanks to my contributors so far and in future!

RE: Stress and Strain and modulus

I am sure there is something near Goteborg considering the proximity of Volvo and Saab.

If you can't find anything yourself, try Stork in the Netherlands.

RE: Stress and Strain and modulus

When testing elastomers the temperature and strain rate are very critical.  It is also important to condition the samples correctly (temperature, humidity, chemicals, and such).  Aging of samples is an art unto itself.

RE: Stress and Strain and modulus

banjioa, if you are unable to locate a local lab that can perform this type of testing, I suggest that you contact the Swedish Institute for Food Preservation Research, S-400 21 Göteborg 16, Sweden. They will be able to direct you to a local resource that can help you.
