including initial stresses throughout a transient analysis

(OP)
Hi,

I'm trying to imitate residual stress around a rivet hole by simply applying a pressure to the elements around the hole and then conducting a transient analysis. i have tried following the Ansys help files by applying the residual stresses and writing it as the first LS file with a minimal load step time but this seems to yield very large results indicating to me this is incorrect. I have also tried performing a static anslysis of the residual stresses before applying the transient loads but this seems to have no affect on the analysis at all.

I would be greatful if anyone could advise me how i might go about incoropating these inital stresses so they are included throughout the transient analysis.

Thank you
Alan
