Non-Toxic Grease

Non-Toxic Grease

Non-Toxic Grease

(OP)
I'm looking for a non-toxic vegetable based grease or something similar to coat submerged bolts; they will be encased, but if by accident, they become exposed, there may be some envionmental issues.

Any suggestions.  Thanks, Dik

RE: Non-Toxic Grease

Non-toxic, or "food grade", i.e. rated by FDA and/or NSF so that it can be ingested if food contacts it incidentally?

A lot of mineral greases could be considered non-toxic, as it would take a heckuva dosage to cause a person any real harm.  Silicone greases/oils are (in some cases) allowed as medical implants, due to their low reactivity with human tissue and immune system.

RE: Non-Toxic Grease

I would contact Eureka about your problem and concerns. They will have a product that will meet your requirements. Not vegetable, animal, wool fat lanolin.

Anecdotal:
They used to make a  product that coated nearly every potable water tank around. I still have a pint of the material and use it quite often for cracked and dry skin and wound dressing to prevent scarring.
The applicators of this material had hands like children, no wrinkles, callouses and smooth as silk. Made all the girls envious.

You might want to look a the Denso products as an adjunct to your system.

Or a company like JAX that specializes in food grade lubricants.

RE: Non-Toxic Grease

Dik,

Still asking for feedback, as your post is not clear:  do you need something utterly non-toxic, i.e. that can be ingested, purposely or accidentally, and do no harm to humans?  Or further, no harm to wildlife?  Bugs?  Amoebas?

Food-grade grease is really (usually) just very pure mineral grease, with no toxic additives.

Vegetable greases and animal greases (and, well, even mineral greases to an extent) are non-toxic to start, but have the disadvantage that they can decompose (be "food" to bacteria) and become something pretty nasty, unless they are treated with stuff to prevent bacterial growth, which...generally, is toxic...
