ASTM A193B7

ASTM A193B7

ASTM A193B7

(OP)
Hello,

A193 GrB7: In the scope it is written that bars and wire shall be hot - wrought. What does it means?Do you think we could use a bar from A193GrB7 instead ASME A 105?
Thank you for your help.

RE: ASTM A193B7

It means that the bar or wire rod is deformed while it is hot in order to break up the as-cast structure.  This only becomes an issue when you're talking about very large fasteners.  I'm confused by your second question.  ASTM A 193 is a fastener specification, not a bar specification, meaning you cannot purchase a steel bar according to ASTM A 193.  ASTM A 105 (same as ASME SA 105) is a standard for steel forgings for piping applications, and therefore does not pertain to bars or wire rod used for fasteners.

RE: ASTM A193B7

Agree with TVP regarding the ASTM A193 Specification. Actually, A/SA 105 does address "some piping components machined from rolled bar" in the Scope. In addition, Section 4.4 of A/SA 105 does indeed address "hollow cylindrically shaped parts may be machined from hot-rolled bar, forged bar or seamless tubular products"..... These product forms should be purchased to the proper ASTM Specifications.
