Can 2 Versions Of NX Be Loaded On A Workstation?
Can 2 Versions Of NX Be Loaded On A Workstation?
(OP)
We are currently using NX3 on Dell PC computers running Windows XP Pro. Can we also load NX5 and have both versions on our PCs at the same time?
If both are loaded would we only be able to use one or the other?
The reason initially to do this would be so we can work on our current projects in NX3 and be able to come up to speed on NX5 (Practice) before we go full bore with NX5.

UG V16.0.4.2
UG V17.0.2.2
UG V18.0.5.2
NX 1.0.4.2
NX 2.0.6.2
NX 3.0.5.3
NX 4.0.4.2
NX 5.0.3.2
NX 6.0.0.16(beta)
And so that everyone understands, I run all of these versions with only 2 license sheets, one for NX 4 and the older versions, and one for NX 6 and NX 5. Note that this is required due to a change in the Flexlicense tools that we made with the release of NX 5 so that all Siemens PLM Software products could be served from a single license server using a single license file.
Also, in case you're wondering, for the older versions of the software (NX 2 and older), in order to save space on my laptop, I've removed all the optionsl files and only left the core modules. And except for NX 5 and NX 6, I've also removed the documentation sets.
Granted, we would not expect any customer to leave this many versions up and running, but at least it can be done if needed for some reason. In my case, I like to go back and verify whether there were regressions and so on when I encounter problems with newer versions of the code.

I still have a question about this. I confused about the license sheet issues. In fact the license is contained in a file and like most people we have one file to run all the licenses. We have copies of all the files for various versions all the way back to the demise of the ACS, but we have only ever needed to serve teh latest version because the old has always run under the new. Now there is a change in the technology. I want to be able to run NX-3, NX-4 and NX-5 at the same time. Can I do it and how?
I'm aware there may be some legal issues so please take it as read that we don't intend to abuse the system we just need to be sure that we can get the facility we have always had in the past when we start to roll out NX-5.
Best Regards
Hudson

One server will be installed using the license server software from the NX 4 kit, using your NX 4 license sheet and the default name will be 'UGS NX 4.0 FLEXlm' and it will be assigned, unless you change it, system tcp-port 27000.
Now for NX 5, you will need to install a second license server, this time using the NX 5 kit and using an NX 5 license sheet. This server will be given the default name 'UGSLicensing' and will no longer be unique to NX since it will be also used to control ALL other Siemens PLM Software products, such as TeamCenter, Ideas, Technamatix, etc., and it will use, by default tcp-port 28000.
Note that these two servers can run side-by-side without any complications or conflicts, but you will need to get from us a two different license sheets and you will have to work out some sort of arrangement with our people so that you are not in effect getting double the number of seats of software. I'm not aware of the exact details as to how we're handling this, you'll have to take that up with your Siemens sales rep and/or installation coordiantor.
