Inventor's Version of Revision manager?

Inventor's Version of Revision manager?

Inventor's Version of Revision manager?

(OP)
I just switched over to Inventor 2008 from Solid Edge and was wondering if there was an add on program, or if Inventor had a feature akin to Solid Edge's "Revision Manager".

If you are unfamiliar with this software I can explain. It is a stand alone program that comes with Solid Edge. It allows you to pick an assembly, part, weldment, or drawing and it's tree structure will show up in a browser window. From this window you can adjust file properties (iProperties), rename or move files, while maintaining the link to the main assembly. This is particularly useful for copying/moving large multi part assemblies to a network drive. It's also very useful to help resolve broken links in an assembly.

Is there an Inventor equivalent to this program?

RE: Inventor's Version of Revision manager?

Sound like you are looking for Start>Programs>Autodesk>Design Assistant
for the most basic.

or
free Autodesk Vault (limited number of users)

or
Autodesk ProductStream.

RE: Inventor's Version of Revision manager?

Your answer is Autodesk Vault.  We use it extensively at work.  I don't know how it compares to your old program, but we like it.  It allows multiple users to work on the same stuff, copies designs, controls revisions etc.

RE: Inventor's Version of Revision manager?

Hi DominicG, I went from Solid Edge to Inventor a year ago, and the equivelant to Revision manager is Design assistant as rollupswx says. But it's not as efficient as rev. man. in Solid Edge!

The Vault is more of a database containing all your projects, parts and assemblies and their revisions.

So if you only need to copy and rename some bits here and there Design Assistant will do just fine...

winky smile

Thanks Folke! I appreciate the response. We can't use "The vault" since we'r using Adept. And that program is not really set up to do what I want as easy as Revision Manager was. Boy, I miss Rev Mgr!!

I just wanted to update this thread with a reply as to the usefulness of the 2008 Design Assistant.

It does EXACTLY what I needed to do. I needed to swap old parts out of an assembly and have the new ones show up. It worked FLAWLESSLY.
