Edge Blend or Face Blend challange

Edge Blend or Face Blend challange

Edge Blend or Face Blend challange

(OP)
In the file linked below, I have a simple edge blend on one corner (10).  The result I want is on the other corner that I created by revolving the intersection curve and then trimming (17).  Is there an easier way to do this with a face blend or something?  The next challange then is on the remaining two corners where the side itself has an arc to it.  NX 5.0.2.2

RE: Edge Blend or Face Blend challange

The 'problem' is that what you here is NOT really a blending issue.  It's something else.  Granted, it looks like a blend and it even has some of the characteristics of a blend, but it also does not follow the topological rules of a what constitutes a blend.  So I would say that your 'constructed' corner is about right in terms of how you're going to have to approach something like this.

Now if this is something that you plan to do a lot of, it may be worthwhile looking into getting some NX Open program written that could create the desired shapes and assure that your toplogical criteria is met, but barring that, I know of know built-in function that could do this straight out.

Now before leaving this altogether, there are some very sophisticated 'blending' tools which are part of what we call the studio package which I personally don't have a lot of experience with and there you have more direct control over the shape of the faces and how that transition from one face to another.  But I'll have to leave that to a studio expert.

RE: Edge Blend or Face Blend challange

That explains it.  I don't have to do this often. So I am trying the revolve intersection curve on the other two corners now (after putting two datums at the corner point, normal to the edges), and since I don't know the angle to revolve, I am using the Until Selected option.  But for some reason when I do this my Boolean defaults to Unite, and None is grayed out.  I can't finish the command with a boolean other than None (Create) because "Solid tool body is required for current Boolean option. Change the body type to solid or change the Boolean option to Create."

RE: Edge Blend or Face Blend challange

I'm going to follow-up with development on this since it would appear that your example should work, if we just allowed you to use the Boolean 'None' option.  If learn anything, I'll get back to you.
