Inspection of silver solder joint

Inspection of silver solder joint

Inspection of silver solder joint

(OP)
We are currently using a silver solder to braze tungsten carbide inserts to a 4140 parent material.  I would like to know the best NDT way to inspect the soldered joint.

RE: Inspection of silver solder joint

Years (>30)ago I remember an old timer telling me they did UT testing on silver solder joints for the Navy.  But it would really depend on joint configuration, size and standards of acceptability, etc.  Need more info on your situation.

RE: Inspection of silver solder joint

Visual inspection?

Also they take tungsten carbide tipped saws and hit them hard with a piece of oak.  If the joint is good then the test is NDT.

We have info on brazing carbide and troubleshooting at www.carbideprocessors.com
