How to insert 3d points originated from a different point?
How to insert 3d points originated from a different point?
(OP)
What is the easiest way to insert 3d points originated from a different point of the model? I received a CMM report of the model and would like to check the deviation of the 3D profile. I could insert Coordinate System to match the CMM’s origin and axes. Then how could I insert the XYZ points relative to this new Coordinate System?

RE: How to insert 3d points originated from a different point?
Hi Michael,
Hope all is great. This sounds like a limitation to me. However, if you know the location of the new coordinate system you can calculate where the points will be with respect to the default origin using Excel.
cheers,
Joseph

- Import the point cloud into a new part using a macro like the one referenced in: thread559-183201: Import point cloud..
- Create an assembly of the point cloud part and your modeled part and use some mates to correctly align the origins.

This is what I do (not easy)
1. Open a new part.
2. Insert curve through XYZ. ( Origin is CMM’s origin)
3. Click one end of the curve and insert a sketch (Ø0.2mm circle.)
4. Sweep the sketch along the curve.
5. Insert a new Coordinate System at the Model part Origin (relative to the CMM) origin)
6. Export (Save as) part as Parasolid selecting options of new Coodinate System
7. Import this Parasolid part in the model.
