UNDERGROUND OXYGEN LINE

UNDERGROUND OXYGEN LINE

UNDERGROUND OXYGEN LINE

(OP)
COULD ANYONE GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE DESIGN OF UNDERGROUND PIPELINE CONTAINING OXYGEN USED FOR WELDING IN A SHIPYARD. Q=1000 M3/H.
OP. PRESSURE = 15 BAR.

WHAT KIND OF A MATERIAL TO USE. CAN CARBON STEEL PIPE BE USED.

IS THERE ANY THRUST BLOCK NEEDED.

PIPELINE IS ABOUT 10 KM.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

RE: UNDERGROUND OXYGEN LINE

Search the web for some free downloadable oxygen standards including the following:

AIGA 005 fire hazards of oxygen enriched atmospheres
AIGA 012 cleaning of equipment for oxygen service

EIGA doc 13 oxygen pipeline systems (CGA G 4.4)
EIGA doc 33 Cleaning for oxygen
EIGA oxygen safety
EIGA training package

RE: UNDERGROUND OXYGEN LINE

all the high pressure lines in my area are API 5Xl, carbon steel.

Thank you for these valuable informations

Thank you for this valuale help. I downloaded the stds you mentioned. I didnt realise any material specification in these sds.
Unfortunately, the customer neither have any specification, nor have any person related to this subject.

the specification of the equipment that shall supply oxygen is as follows. Wea re talking about Oxygen purity: 99.5 % by vol.
Gaseous oxygen (GOX): 1000 Nm³/h, based on oxygen consumption during
12 h/day and 5 – 6 operating days per week

Delivery pressure of gaseous oxygen: 15 bar g

All outputs indicated above refer to normal cubic meters (0 °C, 1013 mbar) and are subject to air compressor suction conditions of 30 °C ambient temperature, 1013 mbar barometric pressure and 70 % relative air humidity. Output parameters are valid with a tolerance of +/- 5 %.

Thanks in advance

RE: UNDERGROUND OXYGEN LINE

EIGA Doc 13; CGA G 4.4 mentions combustion resistant alloys.  This include nickel based alloys such as Monel 400 downstream of impingement points.  This standard likely requires half the velocity that you might otherwise use.  Where the velocity is accelerated such as downstream of an orifice plate or control valve you need a short distance of something like Monel to prevent sparks generated by stuff in the line.
