AISI 4130 / Inconel 625

(OP)
Sorry my earlier question should have read what is the main differences between AISI 4130 & AISI 4140.
I also need to know why you would use Inconel 625 rather than 17/4ph when inlaying welds and for anti extrusion rings on Seals

RE: AISI 4130 / Inconel 625

I can tackle your first question;
The main difference is in mass percent carbon content, as indicated by the last two digits, 0.30% versus 0.40%  of 41xx.

RE: AISI 4130 / Inconel 625

Adding to the first question:
The other difference is the manganese range; Mn is lower in 4130, .40-.60 vs. .75-1.00 in 4140.

RE: AISI 4130 / Inconel 625

i might add 4130 is a water hardening steel as 4140 is a oil/polymer hardening steel

RE: AISI 4130 / Inconel 625

Adding to comments wr2 question 1:  4130 is more weldable than 4140.  No pre or post heat required in most cases for welding 4130.  4130 is apparently so forgiving with respect to thermal
 processing for example; In the aircraft industry it is not unual to allow "flame(Oxy-Acelyne torch)" Normalizing after welding.
