Opening Part Repair?
Opening Part Repair?
(OP)
Hi everyone.
2" opening part in the center of the 80" elliptical head have been cut because of my carelessness.
I am considering reparing that place.
How to Repair?
Is it possible to fill up a hole with plate and butt welding?
I'd like to be given some advice and reference codes.
Thanks.

RE: Opening Part Repair?
2" hole that too in the elliptical head can be considered as some nozzle if horizontal vessel or some vent nozzle if it is a vertical vessel. so install a nozzle with a blind flange.
Still u can fill the hole with a plate with supportive calculations regarding the area - but pls get confirmation before u proceed.
Bye
RE: Opening Part Repair?
Weld repair the hole either with a plug of the parent metal if possible, or just with weld metal. Full penetration weld. Full RT and MT/PT the finished weld. PWHT if required by Code or contract documents, if any.
If your material is CS or austenitic SS this is probably all that is required. If the material requires PWHT you may need to confirm the physicals for the extra PWHT cycle.
Study the contract documents, you may need to get approval of the repair and/or procedure first.
As AravindSujay said, you could also just fit a connection. Either way, approval may be required.

Mike
