Assembly components in tree

Assembly components in tree

(OP)
If I change a file name, and open the assembly that that file is contained in, obviously it can't be found.  So then I select the file with its new name and everything should be fine.  However, the assembly tree still shows the component's name as the old file name.  I can manually change it by changing the properties, but I want it to be automatic.  Is this a setting somewhere?  I've looked but can't find anything.

ctrl-Q

That was the first thing I tried, it doesn't do it

RE: Assembly components in tree

Try using SW Explorer to rename files and replace references.  Also try usng RMB --> replace component to swap components (before you delete the old).

RE: Assembly components in tree

RMB the component in the assy tree, Replace Components, find the newly renamed components.  Read up in SW Help for "replace" for further info.

But I'm not replacing, I'm renaming a component.  Making a new file, then replacing the old one with the new one, and then deleting the old one just seems like a waste of time.

Tools->Options, System Options tab, External References category, Assemblies group, check box for "Update component names when documents are replaced"
