Associating multiple text notes to a view in batch

Associating multiple text notes to a view in batch

Associating multiple text notes to a view in batch

(OP)
This question has come up a few times but not been answered adequately for me, ref - thread561-154664: associate origin of notes to view--in a batch?.

Is there a way to do this quickly? As changing the origin relative to view for each note is very cumbersome.

I have tried grouping the text but still cant associate all the text to the view at once.

NX4 btw.

RE: Associating multiple text notes to a view in batch

In one step using any selection method that I know of the answer is no.

One of the responses was to group the notes. I couldn't get that to work. Grouping works fine as far as it goes, but it does nothing for the notes' origins relative to either the view or each other.

You could automate the process, by writing a program, but while this sort of thing has often been suggested in the past I am yet to see samples of code that are enough to help me make such things work. If anybody has such a thing that they'd care to share then please post it.

That said why separate notes, and what is it that you're doing that can't be done in a single note?

Did you know that you can link notes to attributes so that by changing the attributes the notes update. If the text associated to your view is similarly formatted each time then why not set up a note using attributes with all the formatting you may require and use the attributes to edit the contents. The note should maintain associativity to the view and could even be incorporated in any drawing templates that you may have set up.

I hope this helps I'd rather answer in the negative and hope I'm not wrong. If you can let us know a little more perhaps there is a good work around or even a better solution.

Best regards

Hudson

Thanks hudson for the quick reply.

I have an assembly drawing where I add the item quantity next to the item balloons ('4x' for example). If I have 20 of these notes I want to associate with the view, I have to edit the origin of each one seperately!

RE: Associating multiple text notes to a view in batch

Have you considered using split balloons? For instance, keep the item number on the top and quantity on bottom. For the ID symbol, UG offers divided circle, divided square, and divided hexagon. You can enter an upper and lower text to stay with the symbol.

You may also want to read this: thread1103-206191: Methods of justifying split ballooning
Be aware that if you try to do something different you will probably encounter some resistance from the "but we've always done it this way!" types.

Interesting post on the split balloons, I've never used it myself tho, and have to do drawings to the 'company standard'.

I also have a the same problem when I need to associate surface finish symbols + the finish tolerance eg: '0.8' to the view. The company has crap custom symbols unable to be associated to dimension lines. The symbol and the tolerance value have to be put on separately.

I find it surprising UG cannot do this!

RE: Associating multiple text notes to a view in batch

Never underrate human kind for coming up with a third way to do a task that is unsupported by your software.

For what you want to do I have no easy answer. The best way that I can respond to be helpful is just to let you know that there are at least two ways of doing this that are supported by NX as standard out of the box solutions and that using either method is well and truly justifiable because it is going to save the company heaps of time and effort. The first and most standard is to create a parts list with a quantity column, and the second is to try Cowski's method the split balloon, which also requires a parts list.

For finish symbols we feel your pain, but at some point with your customized standards you're going to find yourself doing things that the software hasn't predicted or accommodated yet. Perhaps in later versions it will get a little easier.

RE: Associating multiple text notes to a view in batch

As far as your question on Sunface finish symbols is concerned, if you have "User Defined Symbols" (that ur company has created) instead of "Custom Symbols" u can definately associate them with dimensions, pls go through ug documentation.

We created User Defined Surface Finish Symbols with dual dimension, (e.g. .5 [0.012] text with surface finsh symbol), for one of our customer to avoid associating text with view.

Just found out that that NX 5 is able to do this, just select all the notes / right click / associate to view.
