Damper Motor Life Expectancy

Damper Motor Life Expectancy

Does anyone have a spec on how many operations a typical on/off-spring return damper control motor should be able to perform in it lifetime.  This is assuming normal loading, and normal operating conditions.  This particluar unit is a Belimo NF120.  I have an application where the damper is operating every few minutes under certain circumstances.  Thanks!

RE: Damper Motor Life Expectancy

Belimo's data sheets typically provide this information.

Actually MintJulep, I have the tech sheet....and it's not on there.  That's why I'm here.  Thanks!

RE: Damper Motor Life Expectancy

MJ is right, however.  You need to go to the source on this.  I've got some old and newer Belimo catalogs:  the older one refers to a 60,000 full stroke cycles at rated torque which correlates to a 2-yr warrant.  The newer one says the actuators can be warranted for 2 or 5 year periods depending on the particular T&C of sale and warranty, therefore presumably, they sell ones with higher rated cycle periods.  There are other sections (advertising mainly) which refer to 100,000 full open-close cycles and 1,000,000 partial cycles (internal endurance testing).

So, I suggest using these numbers to get some rough ideas or contacting a local rep to get some more extensive literature (although it might be on-line as well).

RE: Damper Motor Life Expectancy

We routinely test our valve products to between 50k to 150k cycles, and Belimo is one of the acutators we use for the tests.  Except when the actuator is allowed to run very hot (close proximity and good conduction coupling to a valve stem operating at 240 F) all brands of damper actuators can survive well beyond 50k cycles.  A competitive product made by EloDrive has told us they have tested their actuators to over 1 million cycles.

RE: Damper Motor Life Expectancy

Not sure what size of actuator/damper you are looking at, but we test ours to 50 million cycles at full load.  We pride ourselves on our rugged designs.
