stabilizing heat treatment

(OP)
I have a question about stabiling heat treatment.
If you read ASME A312(9 page), you will find about stabilizing heat treatment of S6.
1. Is this different with heat treatment?
2. What is different thing?
3. What kind of book could i refer?
This spec defines that stabilizing heat treatment shall be applied after heat treatment.
If you have any information about this term, share your knowledge.
Thank you for your concern.

RE: stabilizing heat treatment

ZARD58;
The ASME Specification is SA 312, which is the Specification for Seamless and Welded Austenitic Stainless Steel Pipes.

The stabilization heat treatment can be performed as a supplementary requirement for the high temperature Grades 309H, 310H, 321H, 347H and 348H.

The requirement for a stabilization heat treatment is that it is performed after a solution anneal heat treatment. The one specific requirement is that the temperature for the stabilization heat treatment be less than the original solution heat treatment, and as agreed upon between the Purchaser and the vendor.

If you want some additional background, that is free, I would suggest you visit the following web site and download their technical manual. The manual is decent in providing background information regarding stainless steels and the purpose of a stabilization heat treatment;
