Solidworks 2008 on Windows 2000 server??

Solidworks 2008 on Windows 2000 server??

Solidworks 2008 on Windows 2000 server??

(OP)
Does anyone have experience of running SW2008 x64 with Windows 2000 server. We are currently running SW2007 on it with no problems, by this I mean the vault (PDMWorks) is running on the server.

I know it isn't supported by SW, but we aren't upgrading our server until the last quarter of 2008 (Windows 2008 server), and don't really want to wait that long.

The only issue we have with running windows 2000 server is that every night we have to restart the PDMWorks vault service to reset the RAM (1Gb). This was a bug which has been fixed in 2003 server but not in 2000!!

I'm going to run some tests this end when I get a chance but any previous experience will help.

Thanks

Woolly

Chris,

Thanks for the info, but I was already aware that 2000 server wasn't supported, I just wondered if anyone was in the same situation as us and had already tried it with SW2008.

Thanks

Woolly

I have not tried it. I have always gone by the requirements. Maybe someone here has?

RE: Solidworks 2008 on Windows 2000 server??

The PDMWorks 2008 Server will NOT run on Windows Server 2000 ... if you want to use PDMWx 2008 then you need to upgrade to Windows Server 2003.

There is no work-around, or cheat, or short-cut ... it's WS 2003 or you don't run PDMWx 2008.

And if that weren't enough SolidWorks 2008 will not communicate with the PDMWorks 2007 Vault (Server).

So if you're not upgrading to WS 2003 until the (I'm assuming) the last quarter of this year ... then why bother installing SWx 2008 or PDMWx 2008 ... the 2009 version of both will be available in the last quarter of this year (according to SolidWorks).

Stefan ... please provide a little more detailed description/instruction as to how you were able to get around this problem ...

Thanks

Brian

RE: Solidworks 2008 on Windows 2000 server??

Have you opened the guide? If so, locate the PDMWorks msi instead of the SW one and change the launchconditions to allow a lower version of NT.

RE: Solidworks 2008 on Windows 2000 server??

Ahh, I see what went wrong... The link opens just fine in Opera or Firefox, but IE doesn't know the correct XHTML mime type, bummer...

Either here is the patch for IE (all XHTML pages get loaded properly):

CODE --> FixIEXHTML.reg

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\application/xhtml+xml]
"CLSID"="{25336920-03F9-11cf-8FD0-00AA00686F13}"
"Encoding"=hex:08,00,00,00
"Extension"=".xhtml"

RE: Solidworks 2008 on Windows 2000 server??

Stefan,

Will this work for older versions i.e Windows 2000 server? If so what is the function required for this? Also does this apply to PDMWorks server installations, as this is what would be installed on the server not Solidworks??

Thanks

Woolly

RE: Solidworks 2008 on Windows 2000 server??

This is just for enabling the program (actually any MSI program) to install... This way you can test it yourself.

Stefan ... Your next assignment is to find out how to modify SW files to allow opening with older versions. wink

cheers

If you upload a part, assembly and drawing from 2006 and 2007 I'll see what I can do... winky smile
