Autocad and Ms Vista
Autocad and Ms Vista
(OP)
This question may have been asked before !
But Ive just been looking at the compatability lists of programs that run on vista and according to the list Autocad 2002 runs on vista while all the lite programs before and including autocad 2006 Lt do not. Has anyone got Autocad 2002 running on vista and how is it working ?
Thanks !

It's not exactly the answer to your question, but another way, perhaps.

It would be a be step changing an operating system especially when your so used to it. In my opinion Windows xp is a great o/s, it still runs my very old Autocad Lt for windows 95 (I think its about equivalent to Autocad V13 !) and I never had any problems with it. So why change from Windows xp to wine/linux ? Also I sort of empathize with those guys using Autocad V14, however any autocad beyond 2000 is much better. I was bought up with autocad2002 and 2004. Anyway I may persue the above a bit more.
Thanks !

XP currently has SP3 in test (way cool!) and is avaialable, I believe, to have a look at. The future of Vista is hard to put a finger on, but I am putting my money on XP to out-last Vista. Some of what I have read is that Vista will not survive, MS has got to stop the bleeding, Vista has been costly for them.
My advice, go back to XP (as is the majority)and all of your Autodesk products will perform. If you need some confirmation you can google "XP SP3" and "Vista Future?"
RE: Autocad and Ms Vista
Trouble is if your looking for a new computer they mostly come with Vista so what happens then? Can you insist on having Windows XP again?

I doubt checked my site - no Trojan that I could find.

Re: running later versions of AutoCAD under wine, my hubby said there are some graphical (insert jargon in the plural) that will not work yet with wine. However, wine's development team works faster than Microsoft's, so hopefully it won't be too far away that it's possible.

I don't mean to hijaak the thread, but AVG detected the same thing that Exxit mentioned.
There is information about this virus here:
http://
I wonder if it could even be coming through the page counter link or something similar if you cannot find it in your code.
RE: Autocad and Ms Vista
I have heard of legitamate code being labeled as viruses so I'll let my webhost know what I find.
Again, thanks for the tip.

You are right, it is difficult to buy a new PC without Vista right now. My solution has been to spend an extra $100 get a new harddrive. When you get the new machine throw away the harddrive and replace with one you bought. I have heard that Vista is almost impossible to get rid of from a HD, even if you format. So I throw it away, buy a new drive, load up XP and I am good to go. Harddrives are pretty cheap these days.
