Ductbank EGC's

Ductbank EGC's

Ductbank EGC's

(OP)
Hi All,

I am designing a 5kV distribution system in underground ductbank, utilizing single-conductor, shielded phase conductors with an equipment grounding conductor included with each parallel set.  System is low resistance grounded.

Are the equipment grounding conductors required to be the same spec as the phase conductors?  Or, could it just be a green insulated 600V cable?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Regards,

EETD

RE: Ductbank EGC's

No the EGC's aren't required to be the same spec (i.e. MV cable) as the phase conductors.  It doesn't even have to be green after it is above a certain size.  I usually use black THHN or XHHW for my EGC in MV systems.  It is easily distinguishable from the MV conductors.
