Multiple grooved pulleys....Manufacturers???
Multiple grooved pulleys....Manufacturers???
(OP)
I am in the process of creating a test rig that involves an alternator and a motor. The rig is driven by an 8 ribbed multi-vee belt (serpentine) the same kind that is on every car in North America.
The drive pulley is in the 8" range and will be held on the drive shaft with a taper lock hub.
Why, why, why can't i find a manufacturer for the pulley in North America?? I did manage to find one manufacturer with what i want......but, they are in Austrailia.
Surely, (as these are on every car) I don't have to have a custom pulley made. I have been searching online for hours and hours.
Can anyone point me toward a N.A. manufacturer??

If they're on every car in America and it's a one-off for a test rig; wouldn't it be easier to go to a local car breaker and get a good second hand one, even if you had to get a machine shop to bore it out to fit the shaft/taper lock?

Timing belts are shaped like the one on the Optibelt site (grooves perpendicular to the belt axis), however, automotive serpentine belts (especially ones connected to the alternator) have the grooves running longitudinally.

Look around more on the optibelt website and you will find these types of pulleys, multi v or poly v, with the grooves running longitudinally. I have bought these types of pulleys and belts from optibelt just a year ago.

You are correct about the K pitch. I checked, and it turns out I bought the belt from Optibelt, but the pulley from another supplier, Jens S. http://www.jens-s.se/ . Don“t think Jens S has any sales rep. in US, though. Strange by Optibelt to sell belts with the K pitch to the industrial market, but not pulleys. I agree with you diskullman that it would be a good option to switch over from the k pitch to a more common industrial type.
