My IT guys can't find a solution to my problem...

(OP)
I have been dealing with this issue for quite some time.  Solidworks gives me this error several times a day "The instruction at "0x5f8abb04" referenced memory at "0x5f898930".  The refernce memory could not be "written".  The IT department has not been able to figure it out, they have given me another computer and it still gives me the error.  It also blacks out the screen if I try to rebuild any size assembly.  One thing that came to mind is they installed Solidworks 2006 sp1 the anti virus was not disabled.  Any suggestions?

I re-installed solidworks according to the intructions but no luck.  Now it doesn't give me the error message, it just blacks out the screen after every 3rd or 4th command.  If i'm in a sketch it will pause then after 15 sec I will click on the screen and it will say "not responding" on the top window bar.  Then if I click anywhere it will black out, after about 10 sec it will be normal.  My IT department can't figure it out.  It was working fine for about a year.  Until we switched from Novell to a microsoft network.  A couple of weeks ago they to my computer and did the software switch for the network.  Ever since the day i got it back it has been acting like that.  They also thought it was the hard drive, so they bought another one and it didn't fix the problem.

Almost sounds like your graphic memory is having problems (?)--or something similar--if it was working fine previously.  Have you another card to try out as a test?

Ahh, you might want to have IT check in the BIOS if hyperthreading is disabled (it should be disabled).

Which driver are you using for your graphics card?  Get one from the factory site.  Do not use a Windows default driver.

Are you using the 6.14.10.7756 video driver?

cheers

RE: My IT guys can't find a solution to my problem...

Also run a memtest cd (IT should have a Ubuntu installation DVD laying around, if they are any good winky smile)

I had another computer temporarily while they had mine and it was doing the same thing.  It just did it a couple of weeks ago, I have had this computer for over a year without any problems.  The video driver is the latest one 165.25 from the nvidia website.

RE: My IT guys can't find a solution to my problem...

Correction current driver is 77.56, the latest on is 162.65.

I just got this error again.  A window with a title of "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library".  In the window it said "Program:C:\Program files\Solidworks\Sldworks.exe:.  After I clicked "ok" it popped up "Instruction at "0x5f8abb04" referenced memory at "0x5f898930".  The refernce memory could not be "written".  Any suggestions?

RE: My IT guys can't find a solution to my problem...

We had something similar (not the exact same error) happen to someone here.  The problem stemmed from the mouse driver he was using.  Are you aware of any recent hardware changes to your machine, other than the new HDD?

RE: My IT guys can't find a solution to my problem...

Did you try to reinstall the C++ runtime?

VC++ 2008 Runtime:

These are the redists, eg, save them on your network for future installations.
