piping stress analysis for centrifugal compressor

piping stress analysis for centrifugal compressor

piping stress analysis for centrifugal compressor

(OP)
if compressor`s nozzle could pass all forces and torques in operation case(in ceaser program) ,,should we check occasional case( earthquake) or not?(i`m mean if it`s necessary).
if any body has any kind of sources plz guide me ...
thx a lot

RE: piping stress analysis for centrifugal compressor

Pump and compressor nozzle load limits such as API610, 617 and NEMA concern operating conditions. They do not address earthquake loads. You need to agree limits with the equipment vendor and your Client, maybe a simple multiplier on the normal operating limits.

RE: piping stress analysis for centrifugal compressor

In my opinion, it is important to borrow a concept from the nuclear power industry on reasonable seismic allowable nozzle loads.

They define a loading case where there is damage, after a seismic event, but the equipment does not have to be able to operate. ( Safe Shutown case)

In this case, the calculated stresses in piping systems, (and presumably equipment nozzles) are allowed to go to 0.9 Fy. Unless it is safety related, the equipment does not have to again function.

If you can get such a loading condition from a vendor, it would answer your questions.
