2D layout for 3D design, generative problem

2D layout for 3D design, generative problem

2D layout for 3D design, generative problem

(OP)
I created a layout in 2D layout for 3D design but, none of the dimensions are staying generative and when I update the 3D part the dimensions just stay where they were with the same measurement. I then go back and redimension the whole drawing. Could someone please explain if there is a way to changed the dimensions to generative or update the dimensions without edrawings?

Thank you.

RE: 2D layout for 3D design, generative problem

EngJeff,  I don't use that module but in drafting you can make the dimension a "driving dimension" if you double pick on it and check off the box.  The dimension in drafting turns blue.  I wonder if it works the same for 2d Layout for 3D Design?

Regards,
Derek

I would like to use the drafting module unfortunately I received this job only knowing solid works and the prior guy left no notes. How do I insert the views to be dimensioned into the Drafting View?

RE: 2D layout for 3D design, generative problem

engjeff - Does the dimension change color? What kind of change is made on the model, editing or remodeling?

DBezaire - Driving dimensions works also in 2D to 3D layout.

The dimentinos in the Isometric view are purple, the dimentinos in the side and top views are white. They updated once magicly but, ever since I have not been able to get them to update to the correct measurement and area of measurement.

Set analysis mode on and in the drafting branch of tools/options you will find in the dimension tab, in the bottom, types and colors. This will hopefully help you identify the type of problem you experience.
The nature of your model update is also important, if it's editing then there shouldn't be any issues but if feature adding then it could be a drawing issue
