Parts made of Nitronic 60

(OP)
Hi, I work in a pump company, and a purchaser have ask us about a part of a pump (nuts) made of Nitronic-60 (I have never heard about it), we only work with steels, stainless steels, and foundries, also with bronze, brass so I will appreciate if anyone can tell me where I can find the best information about Nitronic-60, and how can I purchase it (very important), because I live in South America - Peru, also if someone can explain me what is galling, its mechanism of attack, when I can suffer from galling in the operation of a pump, what materials mostly affect and why Nitronic-60 is recommended in this case. I have read that is very common in nuts, and shafts. Thanks in advance

RE: Parts made of Nitronic 60

Galling is when you have two materials of similar hardness that, when rubbed together (e.g. friction), can destroy the surfaces of contact.  This is one reason why some people require that the BHN difference be greater than 50 between the two metals.

300 series stainless steels often times suffer from galling problems but not all materials do.  Some stainless steels are anti-galling meaning they won't gall when two parts of the same material are rubbed together (such as wear ring & impeller or case ring & impeller ring & impeller) they won't gall.

So, the issue is...are the nuts & bolts on your pumps galling or not?  If they are non-galling, then that would be the answer you give your customer.  I never heard of the material you speak about.
