Rivets Oversize

Rivets Oversize

Rivets Oversize

(OP)
I am looking for information about rivets oversize. Does MS20479 rivet come in 1st and 2nd oversize?
Where can I find information about which rivets have oversize?
Thanks for help.

RE: Rivets Oversize

Oversize rivets??

They are by nature (or to be honest a pneumatic hammer and buck) expanded into a hole and will fill it.
So if you carefully remove a rivet then you can in most instances put the same size rivet back in. if the person taking it out has butchered the hole then you could go up a size if the structure is capable of the change.

RE: Rivets Oversize

some materials (AD) better than others (DD, KE)

but like 40818, i haven't heard of oversize rivets (like there are oversize hi-loks) ... as ana MRB with a slightly oversized hole, i'd suggest a slightly longer AD-type rivet that would (i expect) fill the hole.

RE: Rivets Oversize

I don't know what type of oversize you are looking for but
NAS1241 and NAS1242 are oversize rivets that are commercially available,....sometimes using the next nominal diameter is acceptable (material thickness and edge distance is acceptable)

Thanks guys for the information.

RE: Rivets Oversize

This may be a little helpful

Countersunk head rivet:
NAS 1097 (BACR15CE for the Boeing folks) the oversize can be a NAS 1241 (BACR15DS).  Pay attention to size and material.

Protruding head rivet:
MS20470 (BACR15BB for the Boeing folks) the oversize can be a NAS 1242 (BACR15BB or BACR15ET).  Again, pay attention to size and material.

Availability and cost are a whole other matter.

Thanks everyone. Is there a web site where i can find technical info about NAS 1242 rivets. I have MMPDS and it does give any info about NAS 1242 rivets.

RE: Rivets Oversize

i just looked up the spec ... NAS1242 are 1/64" over the nominal size (the 1/8" rivet is 9/64").  you need the spec (commercial property) but there really isn't much more in it ... they come in the range of common rivet materials (AD,D,DD) but no strengths etc (not even hole drill sizes for installation) ... your procurment people should be able to get more info.  technically, substitution would be "passed -by-inspection" ... don't count on these guys being stronger, but certainly they are as strong as the original B/P rivet.
