Multiple-size product, in configurations. How to have unique part #?

Multiple-size product, in configurations. How to have unique part #?

(OP)
Hi, I am modeling an assembly which contains one part with two instances.  It's basically a shell and the two sides are the same.  This product comes in 3 sizes.  They all need a separate shop drawing with detailed dimensions.  I modeled it with 3 configuration, each representing one of its sizes.  Then I put it in a assembly that has 3 configurations also, respectively.  Then I put it on a drawing and dimensioned it.  I realized that if I duplicate the sheet or the drawing file, and change the configuration, I'll retain all the dimensions, which is good.  But in the BOM, all the parts have the same part number.

Is there any way to resolve this so that I can use the multi-configuration part but each have its own part number?  I tried to give a custom property for the part in the "configuration-specific property", and put that in the BOM, but then other regular parts, like nut and bolt, don't have that custom property and was blank in the BOM.  So this method doesn't solve the problem.

Or what is the best practice for modeling parts like this? (having multiple size of the same product, but each need a separate part number and drawing)

Thanks.

RE: Multiple-size product, in configurations. How to have unique part #?

Just right click on the configuration and you can specify what it reads as the part number in the BOM.  You can have it as the file name, configuration name, or user specified.  It can also be driven by a DT using "$partnumber".  We have 10' tubing that we cut every 1/16" so each model has quite a few numbers associated with it.

Thank you so much.  You solved my problem.
