Hello,
I'm new to Solid Edge. I'm currently running V18.
I'm designing a machine that has a #40 chain and also 40b14 sprockets.
Here is my issues;
1- I can not find on the web a drawing already created of the sprocket so I'm using the factory dimensions, leaves a little to be desired.
2- When trying to attach the chain to the sprocket I can not get it to be constrained. I'm mating one side of the sprocket with the chain and mating the spocket pocket opening with the chain as another. At this point it gives me rotation unlocked. I can lock it but it spins the gear where I do not need it.
How do I do this?
I'm use to cadkey so you do nto have to do this but I want to try and figure it out since i need to get it done.

I've created some sprocket drives in SE v20 using #35 ANSI. Since I have Cadkey 99 and Draft Pak, I created the profiles in Cadkey and exported the solid models to Solid Edge.
For chain drives, I typically don't model the chain exactly. I create a sketch in the assembly showing the centerline path of the chain so I can work out the center distance/pitch correctly. I then create a "belt" to represent the chain by offsetting the centerline path to either side to represent the height of the links. The width of the "belt" is the width of the link.
I'm not sure if it is a new feature to the engineering reference application in Solid Edge, but I noticed that there is a sprocket designer section. I have not tried it yet and it appears that not all sizes are listed.

I'll start doing it that way. I'm using a chain that has cleats on it so I'll just model what I need then I'll picture in the rest.

By cleats are you referring to ANSI attachments such as "A" and "K" pieces? I've done a chain drive with ANSI attachments although I only used a couple per chain or "belt". If I were placing more then I would try Pat's method of using patterns. It might get a little tricky if you have idlers or tensioners but it should work.

I've kept cadkey on my machine for just incase. I've been using cadkey for most of my engineering life so it is sometimes easier for me to do a quick layout in cadkey versus solid edge.

It sounds like you're on the right track with the attachments. If you need to go all the way around the chain, use the pattern along curve like Pat mentioned.
We still have a lot of legacy files in Cadkey so I still have it loaded on my machine. I'm a little worried about what will happen when Vista becomes the standard and Cadkey won't run on it anymore, but I still use if for the older files. Sometimes I'll model sheet metal in Solid Edge and import the model into Cadkey.
Do you have Draft Pak loaded?

Check out the sprocket designer in the Solid Edge Engineering Reference application. You'll need to access it in an assembly but you might be able to fudge some numbers in the input stage and get SE to create a couple of sprockets for you.
