Save/Recall Selection Set

Save/Recall Selection Set

Save/Recall Selection Set

(OP)
As a continuation of thought from thread559-206248: Macro to do surface area calculation, I thought it might be handy to be able to save and recall selection sets in a more general sense.  The macro posted in that thread was specialized for faces and surface area.  This macro is more generalized, and works on faces, edges, vertices, and planes.  You can save and recall selection sets with any or all of these entities.

RE: Save/Recall Selection Set

Sounds like it could be very useful. Can you explain a bit more about it? How do you Save the selection?

cheers

RE: Save/Recall Selection Set

Sorry, I probably made it sound like a little more than it really is by using the word "save".  It doesn't save it to a file or anything, it just remembers one selection set at a time, kind of like a bookmark.  The wording is really pretty sparse on the form for size reasons, but basically you can select any number of entities and hit "New" or "Add" under "Edit Set".  "New" will discard the old "bookmarked" set and save the entities you had selected when you hit the button.  "Add" will add your currently selected items to the existing "bookmark" set.

Under "Reselect", hitting "New" will clear any current selections in the graphics area prior to selecting all the "saved" entities.  Hitting "Add" will leave any current selections selected and select all the "saved" entities.

As a usage example, if the OP in the other thread were to use this macro instead of the one posted there, he would select the faces of interest from the graphics area and hit "New" under "Edit Set".  Then, he could make any changes he wanted to the model, rebuild, and hit "New" under "Reselect".  The faces of interest would then be selected (and the count of any missing faces would be updated), and he could activate the standard SW measure tool to get the surface area.  If his modifications added a face of interest, he could select just that face and hit "Add" under "Edit Set".  That way any "Missing" faces are retained in the bookmarked set so that if they reappear they will still be counted.

Hope that's a little clearer than mud... smile  If anyone has any ideas how to make it more useful let me know.
