trusses used in refinery or pipeline are usually galvanized or painted. thanks.

RE: truss in refinery

Yes, that is correct.  Thanks.

Seriously, did you have a question?

RE: truss in refinery

(OP)
Sorry for the confusion. Do you paint or galvanize the trusses in buildings in refinery or pipeline industry? Thanks

RE: truss in refinery

High performance coating systems vary within these industries from company to company.  Hot dip galvanizing is always an option to consider, but is sometimes ruled out due to lack of capacity in galvanizing plants, etc.  And there are a wide variety of coatings systems which are employed.

thanks

if we galvanize the truss, can we still weld the truss to its seat? how do you do it?

RE: truss in refinery

It is not a problem to weld a galvanized truss to its support.  The zinc will be burned off, and you will need to protect the welded area with a coating system, probably an organic zinc filled coating.  The same would be true should you select another coating system.

thank you very much. do you know any web sites or online publications about this issue?

is it difficult to paint the double angle web members?

RE: truss in refinery

Not specifically.  I would just keep googling until you find what you want.  For coatings, check out the sites of Porter, Carboline, Tnemec, or other industrial coatings suppliers operating in your area.

Double angle web members are difficult to paint, in fact the coating of such is not at all reliable unless a dip coating system is being used.  Hot dip galvanizing solves that problem, but I would avoid double angles because maintenance coatings cannot be applied between the angles.

RE: truss in refinery

Why not bolt the truss to it's supports?

RE: truss in refinery

(OP)
it is a masonry building. trusses bear on steel plates on walls. thank you every one

RE: truss in refinery

Be aware that welding on galvanized parts can give off toxic fumes and the welder must be protected
