Steel Deck - Maximum Slope

Steel Deck - Maximum Slope

Steel Deck - Maximum Slope

(OP)
I have steel floor deck that runs perpendicular to my steel W shape beam.  I need to slope the steel floor deck, but cannot rotate the steel beam to meet that slope.

Without rotating the steel beam to the steel deck slope, what's the maximum slope I can put on this deck and still weld the end of the deck to the steel beam?

RE: Steel Deck - Maximum Slope

I usually add a sloped plate on top of the beam to match the deck slope.

RE: Steel Deck - Maximum Slope

Good question to ask a fabricator! I have always used 1/4" per foot slope maximum before I need to rotate beam or add bent plate.

RE: Steel Deck - Maximum Slope

Triangular shims can give unlimited slope with an extra weld.

RE: Steel Deck - Maximum Slope

Tapered shims are much more expensive then a bent plate.

Where the deck slope changes along the length of the member, I have used part of a pipe or radiused plate so the bearing would always be tangent to the round.
