edge flange

Hi all,
Can I add an extruded cut to an edge flange without losing the sheet metal features? I have effectively a C channel created by edge flanges on which I need to shave the width with a secondary cut.

RE: edge flange

One thing to remember, depending on how you apply the cut, you may lose it in the flat pattern. The rub being, if you apply the cut using the unfold/fold method, it also may fail. SW sheetmetal needs a constant thickness to work.

I have tried it with results listed by JM. It sounds as though I need to re model as a solid and forget the sheet metal features. Thanks

RE: edge flange

This can be done in sheet metal, but you will need to "cheat" by using configurations.

One for the flat layout without the material reduction, and another in the folded state [u]with[/b] the width reduction.

CBL
But the model will not allow me to make any extruded cuts on edge bends.

RE: edge flange

You can make the cuts on edge bends using the unfold/fold method. Just use configs as CBL suggested.

RE: edge flange

Can you post the SW file or at least an image of what you are trying to do. Perhaps we are misinterpreting what you need.

cheers

I will post an image ASAP. Thanks
