Surface Treatment for Inco 718

(OP)
Can anyone recommend me a surface treatment for INCO 718 for use in wear , fatigue applications? Is passivation is enough?

Thanks in advance

RE: Surface Treatment for Inco 718

What is the environment including temperature variations, type of abrasive likely to be encountered, etc.?  For fatigue resistance, you don't want any type of coating, just the normal heat treating and cleaning recommended by Special Metals/Cartech/etc.  For wear resistance, other considerations may need to be made.

RE: Surface Treatment for Inco 718

For wear resistance you can try a hard PVD nitride, such as titanium nitride (TiN).  For high temperature applications (over 500 C), titanium aluminum nitride (TiAlN) would be best.  I'm not sure how the process will affect fatigue life for INCO 718.
