Automatic synchros in Volkswagen??

Automatic synchros in Volkswagen??

Automatic synchros in Volkswagen??

(OP)
I've heard that volkswagen has an automatic transmission that instead of utilizing multi disc wet clutches, they automatically control synchros in what I've heard is basically a manual transmission.  I've seen other things that do this, like Eaton's semi transmissions, but was looking for more information.  Does anyone know anything about this transmission or where I can find more information on it?

RE: Automatic synchros in Volkswagen??

Sounds like you are talking about automated manual transmissions, and in this case the VW DSG.  This is not a traditional manual transmission though, it is a dual shaft gearbox.

The Smart car uses an automated manual transmission which is more like traditional manuals.
