Worm gear kinematic simulation?

Worm gear kinematic simulation?

Worm gear kinematic simulation?

(OP)
Hello,

how can I simulate a worm gear kinematic in Catia V5?

Thanks in advance.

RE: Worm gear kinematic simulation?

did you try the GEAR joint in DMU Kinematics?

RE: Worm gear kinematic simulation?

(OP)
yes, but I could not figure out how to use it for the worm gear kinematic (the rotation axis are perpendicular...)

RE: Worm gear kinematic simulation?

If you use the gear mate it should still work the same as a worm gear if you set the ratio right. At least it works in Solid Works so it should work in Catia.

Laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before resting before you get tired.

Hello cadfish,

maybe is possible in SW but i still can't find the solution in Catia V5... the rotation axis must be paralel for Catia in order to make a gear join...
Any other idea?

RE: Worm gear kinematic simulation?

That's not true, Donnis. You can have any angle between the two gears in a GEAR joint.

RE: Worm gear kinematic simulation?

Donnis...  here's the steps:

1. make sure you have at least 3 parts: the worm, the gear and a gearcase.

2. switch to DMU Kinematics and define your mechanism

3. define a REVOLUTE JOINT between the WORM and the GEARCASE

4. define a REVOLUTE JOINT between the GEAR and the GEARCASE

5. make the GEARCASE fixed

6. add a GEAR JOINT using the two REVOLUTE joints, define the gear ratio and select one of the joints to be the driver

7. run the simulation

Thank you jack for your reply. I have did it from the beginning the way you say, but my problem is: I can only select the first revolute joint... when I'm trying to select the second one, Catia don't accept it (it shows the interdiction sign) and I don't know why. I will try further, but due to my problem I've just thought that the axis must be always parallel (which is not the case, as you said).

RE: Worm gear kinematic simulation?

Mmmm think I know why, if you check jackks picture of the gear joint you will see that the two revolutions have the same father beside the gears and that is a prerequisite to create a gear joint.

Thank you very much! Using the picture from jackk and the observation from Azrael I managed to create the simulation! Thank you all again.
