Is it possible to estimate an inflow hydrograph to a dam retention pond which is part of the Housatonic river( In the Bershires,Western Mass) during the October 2005 storm Tammy?  I have the topography of the area and all the major brooks/lakes feeding the Housatonic.

One more thing, assume ground is saturated.

RE: Inflow Hydrograph

It is possible but you need more information. You also need the rainfall, the time pattern of the rainfall, an estimate of the ground cover types, soil types, and possibly some other data , if available. Then, there are a number of mathematical models you may use to make your estimate.

good luck

I believe that I have most of the info. that you are mentioning.  I have the Robert E. Corbitt standard handbook of Environmental Engineering which has chapter #7 on Stormwater Management.  I'll piece an inflow hydrograph equation together and I'll run by you to see what you think.

RE: Inflow Hydrograph

Before you "run it by me", tell us please what it is you are trying to do.

I am doing a channel routing to ultimately determine how long it would take to restore water level to a non flooding situation with water flowing over a dam spillway in conjunction with opening flood gates which were closed at the time.

RE: Inflow Hydrograph

You can probably model this most easily in HEC-RAS.

good luck

Thanks guys for the tips! I got my info from USGS daily statistics going back to 2005.  It's incredible, I did not think that their data bank would be big enough for the area of interest and let alone for the whole country.
