Gtol network location

RE: Gtol network location

Not that I know of. If you find something please let me know and I will add it to FAQ559-1229: How Do I Create Custom Symbols?

That would make for a good ER. Anything which can be modified should be able to be copied outside of the SW install folder and referenced by the File Locations option.

cheers

RE: Gtol network location

you could use a tool like syncback to update it on certain times, assuming you don't modify it often.

RE: Gtol network location

(OP)
I've just submitted the following enhancement requests for gtol.sym (wording may vary from my actual submissions):

1.  Allow user to change the file location for gtol.sym within the File Location area under Options.

2.  Provide a graphical interface to allow users to create new gtol.sym with an image, and/or provide a method to convert sketches into gtol.sym symbols.

3.  Allow gtol.sym symbols to be edited on the fly while running SolidWorks.  Currently, for edits to symbols to be realized, S/W must be exited and restarted (which can be very tedious if multiple edits are required).

I invite everyone who agrees with these submissions to submit each for themselves to get this issue some attention.

RE: Gtol network location

Yep, definitely hard-coded.  I found the place (using a hex editor) in the sldappu.dll file where the filename is specified.  The path is not specified there, so it's probably a global variable for the install directory.  I was able to change the DLL file to reference "crap.sym" instead of "gtol.sym" and renamed the gtol.sym file to crap.sym.  SW still opened and I was able to insert a symbol from crap.sym.  However, when I tried to reference "gtols.sym" SolidWorks crashed immediately after the splash screen, before the window came up.  I assume that there is a comparison or something on the length/size of that DLL.  I was able to rename the file to "ls.sym", put it inside a new folder in lang\english called "g", and changed the DLL to look for "g\ls.sym".  That also worked, although it doesn't really get you anywhere.

RE: Gtol network location

Good deal guys! I hope SW makes the change of attaching arrow leaders to the flag notes. The space between the leader and the flag note is killing me! I'm a fuss bucket when it comes to stuff like this.

Yeah, but I use that same type for my drawing notes. Also, they look pretty crummy on a drawing.

macduff-
By playing with the numbers a little you can move the symbols over so that the space is eliminated, tedious, but it can be accomplished.
*1,Triangle 1
A,LINE -.6,.0,.45,1.65
A,LINE .45,1.65,1.50,.0
A,LINE -.6,.0,1.50,.0
A,TEXT .45,.5,1

RE: Gtol network location

Very Nice! Let me monkey around with the numbers you gave me and I'll come back and respond. In the meantime, a star for you taking the time to look at this.

Thanks,

RE: Gtol network location

Looks real good, but has a slight overlap when you double up the flag symbols. You can see it electronically, but when it's printed out it really hard to see.

FYI,
I love the new functionality of uploading of files.
