Hello having trouble getting excel to see things my way.

I am trying to get an output of mm/min and excel if getting the time unit mixed up.

I have something that has taken over 24 hours to occure and when I divide the distance by the time I get the wrong number.

I'm also interested in formating a cell to show minutes greater than 60. So 1:20:00 to show as 80. I have seen something on the net about [mm]:ss but can't find that in the format options just [h]:mm:ss.

If this have already been asked/answered please provide a link.

Thanks.

RE: Excel rates mm/min

Excel's unit of time is the DAY.

That is, a numerical value of 1 = 1 day = 24 hours = 1440 minutes.

Thanks That makes a big difference.

RE: Excel rates mm/min

Re. the second part of your question: if you go to Format/Cells.../Number/Custom, you can type [mm]:ss in the box under Type:
You don't have to select anything from the list, Excel allows you to come up with your own format, as long as you use its Number format coding.

Joerd
