Construction Load

Construction Load

Construction Load

(OP)
How do you compute the allowable construction load?

Lets say, I am casting my precast wall panel on top of the UGF floor Slab....

The precast wall panel will give a 100 psf load to the slab.

Any thoughts?

RE: Construction Load

ASCE publishes a construction design book, ASCE 37 I belive. Certainly that would provide some guidance on the live load to use. Dead load is dead load.

RE: Construction Load

Another book is "Temporary Structures in Construction", by Robert Ratay. You can get a nice preview of this book at this link:
http://books.google.com/books?id=U8To1emV5ckC&pg=PT56&lpg=PT56&dq=falsework+manual&source=web&ots=faE7tD1p9h&;sig=XyOe-Jzdv1yvfjC2gkZwmquVxKg#PPP1,M1

A well respected free reference is the "California Falsework Manual". The California DOT does not appear to have it on their website any longer...
so, this morning I have put it on my site, on this page:

See Chapter 3.

RE: Construction Load

Thanks Sliderule, always good to see more views on this topic.

Some codes will give basic guidelines on this as well, though I can't say I've seen a building code that does (CSA S6-06 has a few guidelines for bridge construction loads).

In reference to jrisebo's comments, concrete being cast is generally treated as a live load in limit states designs.

Thank you very much...
