Impact Test Direction: ASME Section VIII, Div. 1
Impact Test Direction: ASME Section VIII, Div. 1
(OP)
Does ASME Section VIII, Div 1 mention a specific direction i.e. longitudinal or transverse, for carrying out the impact test on the material? It mentions the required impact energy but I was unable to find the direction in which it should be tested. As a reference, API 650 & 620 provide different impact test values for transverse and longitudinal directions.

22.1.1 "Test location and orientation should be addressed by the specification. If not, for wrought products, the test location shal be the same as that for the tensile specimen and the orientation shall be longitudinal with the notch perpendicular to the major surface of the product being tested."
Applicable specs listed in table UG84.3 (2007 ASME Sec VIII Div.1)
hope this helps.
