Motors-full load amperage

Motors-full load amperage

(OP)
We have many motors where either the nameplate is intact or we at least have the nameplate data.  Someone has recently suggested that the manufacturer's amperage ratings are wrong because of friction, wind resistance, and magnetizing forces.
Can anyone elaborate on this for me?  Thanks in advance.

RE: Motors-full load amperage

Whoever told you that is wrong.  FLA is the current the motor draws at rated full load.  This includes amps required for losses in the motor and the magnetizing current.

RE: Motors-full load amperage

This is a new one to me.  The manufacturer's nameplate takes into account all of the factors that you mentioned.  You can download the complete NEMA MG-1 standards if you want to pay for it or you can download the condensed version for free to see exactly what the nameplate information means at http://www.nema.org/stds/mg1condensed.cfm
