Modeling Bi-directional carbon fiber in ANSYS

Modeling Bi-directional carbon fiber in ANSYS

(OP)
Hi,
I would like to know how to model a bi-directional carbon fiber reinforced epoxy structure.
I have been searching all over the place, but all I could find was uni-directional.
Please give me a guideline of how to start out.

I really appreciate your help. Thank you

RE: Modeling Bi-directional carbon fiber in ANSYS

Have you read Ch. 13 of the Structural Guide in the Ansys documentation?  This deals with composites...

Hi Stringmaker,

I have read chapter 13 of the ANSYS documentation. It mentioned FiberSIM-ANSYS interface.
My question now is where can I obtain a copy of FiberSIM. I have looked everywhere I can on the net, I couldnt find a place to download or even purchase FiberSIM.

The carbon fiber reinforced epoxy structure I'm trying to model is woven, and bi-directional, so I think I would need fiberSIM for that.

Thanks,

I'm not a composites guy...but I think FiberSIM is a sort of CAD for composites which interfaces with programs such as CATIA, UG, etc.  Ansys has the ability to read input from FiberSIM.  However, in your case you'll want to specify your layer information directly.  You don't need any special software or add ons.
