Photoworks question

Photoworks question

Photoworks question

(OP)
hi all,

Does anyone know what happened to the interactive rendering option? I'm trying to do a composite render with a real background photo, and i need to show b4 rendering to make sure my models perspective and angle is correct. thanks in advance!

RE: Photoworks question

i thought it had something to do with the new real view. well if i am using a custom scene how do i get it to show up?

RE: Photoworks question

Add the folder location of the scene to your Real View tab, then drag the scene into your graphics view.

RE: Photoworks question

i did as you said but the scene doesnt show up. the reflections show in the part but the background is not there. Any thoughts?

RE: Photoworks question

(OP)
also i want the background image to be stationary so i can line the part up to it.

RE: Photoworks question

What file format are you using for the background? I believe it needs to be something like a *.p2s. As far as making it stationary, hopefully Rob (or someone else in the know) will chime in.

RE: Photoworks question

Depending on how pretty your picture needs to be, you can add your picture as your viewport background, and use realview to get your part/assy to looks right.  Then do a screen capture.  That's just one quick way of doing it.

RE: Photoworks question

it needs to be real nice looking yes.

as far as the backbround. i dont wont to have this as a background for everything i do. Just this file. with that method wont i have to remove it every time i open a different part? Also it seem to stretch the image out to wide when doing that. Any thoughts. The other method was do easy. the only thing that sucked about it was using the invisible floor to get shadows to reflect, never worked. Thanks!

RE: Photoworks question

OK.  Go to TOOLS/OPTIONS/COLORS and use the setting "use document scene background"  The in the scene editor set your background to the image you want to use.  As long as you have RealView enabled you will be able ot see the image.  For the shadow on the image use the "shadow floor" material on the floor.

RE: Photoworks question

(OP)
great Rob, Thanks! One other thing the image is being stretched to fit. Is there a way to have it just show its actual size? Thanks!

RE: Photoworks question

I'm not at work right now, but I do have a macro that shows the file in a 1-to-1 ratio on the screen.  Not sure if that's what you are looking for, and I'm not sure where I scrounged it up.  Somebody here will probably remember where you can find it.

RE: Photoworks question

this would be just so show the photoworks background image. like interactive rendering in previous releases did.

RE: Photoworks question

I know of no way to keep the image from stretching :(.  I have had numerous discussion about this with SW and I hoping they give us that control in the future.

In 2007 You might be able to play with your feature tree width to adjust the graphics area size to a ratio similar to your background image and this will minimize stretch. It's a trial and error thing.

In 2008 this doesn't work becasue the feature tree floats over the graphics area and adjusting it's width will have no effect.  Maybe minimizing SW and adjusting it's window size would help.

Not really great answers but it may get you by?

its not a huge deal now, but it drives me crazy when a new release comes out and they've taken a perfectly good feature out..... :(

Not the first time this has happened :)

RE: Photoworks question

Yes, I know.  One of my first questions was, "where is interactive rendering"? :)

It does work well in RealView and you can now see the shadowing in realtime which is nice.  I think this change stems from SW integration of RealView & PhotoWorks.  I think you'll see more changes in the future as the two are brought closer.  It wouldn't surprise me to see RV and PW become the same product at some point.  PW will either have to be provided with core SW (like animator is now) or you'll have to upgrade to have any kind of rendering ability.  I just don't see how they can keep merging the two and then offering seperate products totally based on the amount of money you're willing to spend.  I'm rambling.
