Magnetic Flowmeters

Magnetic Flowmeters

Magnetic Flowmeters

(OP)
Continuing the theme of flowmeters, does anyone have experience with magnetic flowmeters - particularly in hydraulic fluid?

http://www.gfsignet.com/products/fs2551.htm

This particular sensor requires conductivity > 10 uS and a Reynold's number greater than 4500. The Reynold's number can be met with engineering the location of the sensor, but the conductivity is a little more problematic.

We use Shell Tellus S68 Hydraulic Oil. The conductivity is not listed on the MSDS or tech sheet. I called the company and spoke to a chemist, who said they do not test conductivity, although he did provide a dielectric number. I can always send it out for testing but if it's not a spec'ed parameter I have no assurance from one batch to another.

Anyone have any experience with these gizmos in a hydraulic environment or have some hydraulic fluid conductivity numbers?

Well I just received a reply from the manufacturer on this one:

"hydraulic fluid is non conductive and too viscous to create the proper flow profile that is required for an insertion type flow sensor"
