Choosing between furnaces using cost

Choosing between furnaces using cost

Choosing between furnaces using cost

(OP)

So we have to stablish a heat treatment process, and the associated machinery. We have to decide between two ways of heating systems:

-Joule effect heating

-Gas furnace

The price of the machines, both suited for a takt time of 30 seconds, is the same.

The cost of energy for the anual production is:

-Electrical: 141 150€

-Gas Furnace: 94 350€

Both of the machines require cooling at the same rate.

The gas furnace is a much bigger machine than the electrical.

It seems the Gas furnace is cheaper (cost-of-energy wise) than the electric one, but only by a small number, not enough to totally decide which one is better...

Is there anyone here experienced with the use of gas furnaces/electrical-resistance heating? how much "hidden cost" is involved in each one?

What process is more "problematic" from a manufacturing point of view?
