working at the same time with xrefs

(OP)
i'm working in acad 14, and a co-worker and i are working on a project together.  Now, we are using 2 different files.  On is the base plan, that she is working on.  And i am working on file that the base plan is X-refed into my project.  And we can not work at the same time unless it is a read only and one of us can not make any changes.  My question is to you, is there away to work at the same time so both of us can make changes in our particular drawing?  t

Thanks for any suggestions

RE: working at the same time with xrefs

If you go to the Preferences Window, (type "pr" and enter), then go to the "Performance" window, lower left corner is "external reference file demand load". Change this setting to "enabled with copy", hit apply. NOW, you can xref the other dwg into yours and she can work on the file at the same time. When she saves her file, (your xref), you can go into the XREF window and hit "reload" for your xref, and it will update the xref file to match exactly what she last saved.  Good luck.
