Score Lines in S.O.G.

Score Lines in S.O.G.

(OP)
Does anyone know the maximum square footage for a slab-on-grade before score lines are needed to prevent cracking?  The application is a foundation for 2 calcium nitrate tanks.  A construction joint will be provided around the perimeter of the tanks.  It's just around the outside of the tanks (beyond the construction joint) that's in question.

RE: Score Lines in S.O.G.

20-25 times the thickness with a max ratio of 1.25 to 1.0 for long to short dimensions is recommended for pavement.  I have used 4" x 4" woven wire fabric with heavy wires, 0.125 to 0.25" diameter, successfully with no joints or scoring for dimensions up to 40 times the thickness.  Good cure, (submerged for 7 days), is recommended.

Low slump, large aggregate and sawcutting time is critical.

Nothing prevents cracking in slab-on-grade concrete.  The "score lines" control the cracking to a regular position.  If you REALLY want to control cracking, post-tension the slab.
